Our featured musical guests are New England troubadours Rick McKinnney and The Parallel String Band, who blend Robert Louis Stevenson’s poems from A Child’s Garden of Verse with traditional acoustic accompaniment including guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and bass. The result is truly exceptional. Stories include Tara Masih’s “Raj and His Magic Elephant Bean,” the tale of a young boy’s magical journey to India and the grandparents he has never met. Mercedes Lawry returns with her story “Gone Fishing” and author Cynthia Jones introduces us to a young prince on his quest for the most precious treasure in the world, which he discovers is friendship. This issue is also peppered with some really fun poems! Discover tomorrow's classics today!

Special Guest: Rick McKinney and The Parallel String Band
A friend of ours in Rhode Island passed this recording down our way, introducing us to the talents of Rick McKinney, The Parallel String Band, and other of Southern New England's finest folk and traditional musicians. McKinney and company have blended Robert Louis Stevenson's poems from A Child's Garden of Verses with traditional acoustic accompaniment including guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and bass.  The result is a truly exceptional album that we are very happy to feature on this issue.

Rick McKinney has been performing folk and traditional music for about 15 years. He is a veteran of bands throughout the southern New England area, whose performing styles range from bluegrass and country to blues and rock.

Other artists featured on this recording include: Phil Smith (vocals, dobro), Cathy Jacques (vocals), Dee Davis (guitar), Chris Heinzmann (fiddle), Michael Pearl (banjo), Lisa Schmitz (banjo, vocals), Sandol Astrausky (fiddle), Greg Badigian (guitar), and Matt Bolles (vocals). Their latest CD "Blue Moon Shuffle" which is geared more for parents, is also available at our site.
